An interesting event occurred this morning. The ship suddenly slowed and made a hard
turn, reversing course. The crew had
spotted an overturned small boat and headed back to investigate. The boat appeared to be about 22 feet long and
was heavily encrusted with marine growth, so it had been in the water for some
time. We speculated it was some Japanese
Tsunami debris. After receiving
permission from the USCG to leave, the ship increased speed and we docked in
Victoria on schedule.
We met our friend, Robin
Bourne for drinks at Aura restaurant at the Laurel Point Inn and then we all
walked over to the Empress Hotel to the Bengal Lounge for a light dinner before
returning to the ship. When we arrived back at Ogden point there were three cruise ships docked, and another had departed while we were at dinner.
We finalized our packing and put the suitcases outside the door
before the 1030 PM departure for Vancouver.

The Zuiderdam arrived ahead of schedule at Canada Place in
Vancouver and after an early breakfast we were off the ship by 0730.
A short taxi ride to the train station brought us over three hours early
for our bus to Seattle. We managed to
get an earlier bus at 0900 and after an uneventful trip to King Street Station
we home before 2 PM.
Over the past 22 days we covered 6267 nautical miles,
stopped at 11 ports, and flew an additional 3300 miles, for a trip of nearly
10,000 miles.
Over the next few days we will sort the photos and post some
to the blog.
